Oskooei: documentaries are made after study and effective communications

Director of the documentary Dreaming at Dawn, Mehrdad Oskooei whose movie was shown in the 9th Truth Film Festival, said "documentary and other directors who want to make short films, must first raise a question in the audience's mind and then answer it".

He said "experimental cinema is not a fun material with superficial content, but the filmmaker tries to reply to some issues that are important to himself as well as to the audience via a professional work. And this happens if the audiences acquire a deeper understanding and expect a movie with dramatic attractions.

"Short films' audiences are often filmmakers, students and those who like conceptual art. I believe ordinary people will not support this form of cinema, even if we place more advertisements", he added.

Director of the documentary The Last Days of Winter said "Using filmmakers from mainstream cinema in short movies would be great. This will make short films a first class for newcomer artists and will also make this form of cinema more attractive".

He emphasized the potentials of Art and Experiment Cinema and said "We can foster the cinema by long-term plans and their frequent screening both on media and more theaters, as well as by placing more advertisements".

On making a good documentary movie, he mentioned the need for study and communications and said "after coming up with an idea, many documentary film makers try to shoot a movie very fast and without adequate studies. But more studies at pre-production phase will result in the film's more attractiveness".

He called 100 Second Films Festival an "idea-based" art event and said "Here the filmmaker faces time limits and a good idea as well as technical work will bring about success".

Movie makers, documentary producers and short film fans can follow the latest news from 100 Second Films Festival via its Instagram page or by joining the festival's channel on Telegram.
