Sabaghzadeh: 100 Second Films Festival seeks new talents

He said the genre is important since it teaches basics of movie making to young artists. "The major significance of short films lies in time management. Gaining experience, improving time management and developing innovation in this genre, helps film makers enter the professional world of cinema", he added.

He pointed to "some young artists" who want to start with feature movies, believing that short films are insignificant, and said "they are wrong, because the experience they gain in this genre would help them much in the future".

The director of the Path to the Heaven said recording and photography technology has played an instrumental role in finding new talents. "These accessible and easy-to-work instruments can help those who believe in their abilities, make short films and participate in festivals and other venues, so they would make use of the reviews by professionals and other artists", he said.

Sabaghzadeh emphasized on this point that it is easier to express many concepts in short films compared to feature movies and added "short films have great potential; it can set the picture without any dialogue and convey a meaning to the audience, while an attractive feature film involves many different elements".

Making a comparison between the two genres, he said "in feature movies, the director attracts the audience by storytelling and character development, but in short films we can use many different events happening around us and depict an idea without much complexity".

Sabaghzadeh said "in order to develop this genre of cinema, officials must publish clear statistics and provide filmmaker with a minimum aid".

He also said "100 second films festival is one of the idea-centered festivals of Iran and has been successful in gathering a group of artists who desire to work on this type of cinema; so it is not organized simply to undertake a cultural task, but it seeks finding new talents, and I have to say the festival has made important steps towards the purpose".
