Jalili: Country needs more idea-based festivals

Jalili told the center for conferences and festivals in Howzeh Honari that although very few idea-based festival are available in Iran, they offer valuable service to many young filmmakers whose number is rising every day and I believe this festival is held as a result of the host and participants' love for their cause.

On the issue of the subjects that young filmmakers might cover, he said: since the Islamic Revolution happened 37 years ago, the country has seen many changes and developments. It would be great to work on these developments. In addition, filmmakers might work on the issues related to Islam which is among the best schools of thought in the world.

He said art can serve a prominent role in the process of selecting great pictures and added "some issues are not explainable through the words and they are best explained by pictures. In contrast, some issues can be clarified verbally. We must not change the places.

He highlighted the significance of gaining insight in making short films and said: Once I was supposed to make a movie about Imam Reza's miracles. In one scene when a girl in poor health was to be cured I asked the people in the shrine not to react, because this is meant to be a movie. Then I asked Imam Reza in my heart to help the movie go forward. But when we started to shoot and the actress stood up, all the people in the shrine ran to her and got crying. I couldn't do anything, but then I remembered I myself had asked the Imam to help the movie go forward.

Mr. Jalili also emphasized on the importance of an innovative idea in making a short film and said: No matter a movie is 100 minutes or 50 seconds, it must be directed properly and the audiences should enjoy it.
