Majed Nisi: low cost makes 100 sec movies popular

Documentary film maker, Majed Nisi said to the Center for Conferences and Festivals in Howzeh Honari that "Not many years ago, there was no social network and no proper system of demand and supply for short films, but important measures have been taken and now we can hope for a bigger audience day after day".

He said cultural officials should change people′s taste by more advertisement. "It is an important idea to think that short movies do not have public support. If we broadcast radio and TV commercials and show the movies in public places, they will draw larger audience", he added.

The director of the documentary movie Oxidized People said support by cultural officials is necessary for making short films. "Production of a movie is an expensive job and requires support by officials. But only few special people are supported", he added.

He appreciated 100 Second Films Festival for its efforts to make short film production possible with less expense and said "the festival has played an important role from two points of view: one for the low costs and the other for the short time which makes the movies suitable choices for screening in public places".

"Showing foreign films can open new windows to the world cinema and make our filmmakers familiar with new experiences. On the other hand, it can create opportunities for our directors to work with international companies", Nisi said.

Director of the documentary My Messy Lock of Hair said short films are bridges that connect filmmakers and their audience. "Although short films do not enjoy box office success, nor does it have a large audience like that of feature movies, many filmmakers chose the genre due to their love toward it. They try to convey their beliefs to the audience and this happens through more Art and Experiment Cinema and through supports by officials as well as favorable advertisement opportunities", he added.
