Mohammadreza Kheradmandan: A 100-second film makes the filmmaker idea-oriented

1401/8/7

Mohammadreza Kheradmandan is one of the directors who's after experimenting in making short films, went on to make feature films, after that he also experienced the field of serial production with the famous series of "Destiny". This young director, who also has the movie "Twenty-One Days Later" in his career, his name is among the selected ones of the 9th and 10th editions of the 100 Festival.

In an interview with IRNA's cultural reporter, Kheradmandan said that making a 100-second short film turns a filmmaker into an idea-oriented person. It teaches that you need a really good idea to get a movie seen.

He said: When you make a short film, you learn that making a good film is born from a good idea. In my opinion, the emphasis of 100-second films is on their ideas. The brighter this idea is, the brighter your work product will be, and it is actually a cinematic language that will teach you how to speak very briefly and concisely.

The short film is a test of talent, creativity and brevity

Kheradmandan compared the a 100-second film maker to a sniper and said: Making a 100-second film is like what a sniper does. The sniper has a bullet in his gun that either hits the target or it doesn't and he has to do his job with all the precision and delicacy.

The director of the movie "Twenty-One Days Later", stating that the short film is a test of talent, creativity and brevity, said: these three elements form the foundations of the short film, when you want to tell a story in a hundred seconds, For the film to be effective, it must contain a large amount of ideation, creativity, brevity and correct narration. It was very interesting for me to be able to turn the thoughts in my head and the ideas I had into works in this way and to test my abilities in brevity and narration.

He continued to express the impact of making short films on his filmmaking journey as follows: This practice of narration and brevity made me use all those elements when I started making movies and serials. In fact, when I was making my first feature film, every sequence was a short film for me. I looked at it in such a way that every sequence has a beginning, an end and a body.

Kheradmandan stated: Based on the exercises I had and the experiences I had gained in short films and 100-second films, with the same form, I tried to have a concise design for each sequence so that my sequences would not be exaggerated, this stayed with me and I tried to continue it.

Stating that I still have the fascination of making a 100-second short film, he said: "If they didn't say bad things to me, I would love to go back and make a 100-second film right now." This format as a language tool is extremely wide and the pure topics are so varied these days that I would like to make a short film. For example, the events that are happening in our society these days can be the basis for making a hundred-second short film. On the other hand, issues in the field of social relations are one of the topics that can be addressed very seriously.

The director of the three-seasoned series of "Destiny" emphasized: the filmmaker must have an independent, personal and self-perceived view. I feel like no one has a problem with an independent look. What is important is that we can deal with problems artistically and delicately. It should not be that filmmakers in particular suffer from self-censorship and do not say what they want to say. Those filmmakers who have their first experiences should be very careful not to be influenced by themselves; When he wants to make a movie and he feels it's the right thing to do, make it.

The beginners, take the 100-film festival seriously

Kheradmendan added: I advise those interested in film making to take their participation in the 100 Film Festival very seriously and plan for it. Nowadays, unlike in the past, making short films is very expensive and making a 100-second film costs much less than a short film.

He emphasized: I advise those who want to pass their first filmmaking experience to set goals and plan. In order to have a film in this festival and to be sure that all the good films that were selected in the 100-film festival in the past years, found an audience in the social media and were seen in all kinds of media that existed, and they're directors were able to find a producer and advance their work to make a feature film. I recommend that they take this festival seriously and plan for it from now on and go for pure ideas so that they can have a successful film in this festival.
